Tubing Like Children

Our first ever blog post and we are going to start off with family, which should always be first. The number one question we get at The Tube Shack revolves around kids and tubes.

If your child is under eight years old, they should go in a swift tube with a parent. A swift tube is an inflatable kayak that has a bottom to it so the child can sit in between your legs and enjoy the trip.

We do have a policy regarding swimming ability, which requires everyone who floats by themselves to be able to swim. Obviously anyone floating with a parent doesn't have to be able to swim, but we do need any kids taking their own tubes to be able to stay afloat.

Everyone is offered a life jacket for free with their tube rental. We do have a lot of youth life jackets, which are designed for kids 60-90 lbs. If your child is lighter than 60 lbs, we suggest you bring your own life jacket for the perfect fit. While we do have life jackets smaller than 60 lbs, sometimes they just don't fit right/comfortably on the smallest humans.

Can you bring toddlers tubing? It is safe to bring toddlers but, as a parent, you have to be confident that your little one will stay happy for a two to three hour float down the river; it can be a long time in the hot sun for some.

Be sure to have everyone wearing river-safe sunscreen (that we provide for free at The Tube Shack), a hat, preferably a swimsuit that covers your upper body to help with sun exposure, and water shoes so everyone can walk up the gravel path at the end of your float. Bring a water bottle and some light snacks for the trip.

Although we may be biased as it's one of our products, we think the 10L dry bag is a must for your float. You can store your keys, snacks and sunscreen in it and it’s available to purchase for $10.

We do offer a family pass, which is our best value ticket. Two adults and two kids receive a tube rental and shuttle for $60. The kids must be 18 years or younger to qualify as a ‘kid’ and if you have more than two adults or two kids, there is an option to add additional floaters at the discounted family rate when booking.

With the rising price of all family activities these days, we are dedicated to keeping tubing an affordable getaway for everyone and, the best part, kids can't be staring at a screen while they are floating!
